Council has opened the new skate park and pump track at Kariong Oval ahead of schedule, and just in time for the Easter school holidays for local and visiting families to enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central Coast Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Mel Smith said the active recreational space is designed for use by a range of ages, abilities, and wheels, and to meet the needs of the growing area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLocal community members submitted 302 surveys during Council\u2019s engagement activities in 2021 which shaped the design of the new skate park and pump track and informed the decision-making process,\u201d Ms Smith said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe new space includes a pump track, which is a continuous smooth track with banked curves and crests which can be used by a variety of ages and abilities on bikes, scooters, skate boards or skates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe street style skate park and pump track with transitional flow and obstacles cater to beginner and intermediate skill levels, with new seating with shade, a water re-fill station and waste bins also installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new skate park and pump track is conveniently located within the Kariong Oval precinct on the Curringa Road frontage with easy access to the library and adjoining carpark. The site is nestled between mature eucalyptus trees and connected open grassed areas, creating a central community space with opportunities for varied passive recreation for everyone to enjoy. This location also allows for natural surveillance which creates a safer environment and reduces anti-social behaviour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Council Administrator Rik Hart said this project has created a central community space with opportunities for active and passive recreation for the whole community to enjoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a great example of how community participation in consultation has led to the delivery of a facility that reflects their vision and meets the needs of local residents. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m sure that the community and children that participated in the consultation and the design workshop activities will be pleased to see their ideas come to life and enjoy the new skate park – which will be used for many years to come.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new skate park was funded by Council\u2019s general revenue and Local Infrastructure Contributions<\/a>, which are charged by Council when new development occurs. These contributions fund local infrastructure needed to support an increased number of residents in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
