Relive the Iconic Live Aid Event<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get ready to embark on a nostalgic rock \u2018n roll  journey through music history as Punwin Productions presents the first ever Australian production of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Live Aid: The Songs & Stories\u2019 on Sunday July 21, 2024.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Australian premier live music event – celebrating what was billed as the greatest day in rock \u2018n roll history, will be held at the Laycock Street Community Theatre<\/em>, Wyoming, NSW<\/em> and will be a unique live concert experience – featuring songs performed at the ground-breaking Live Aid Concert, 39 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Produced and hosted by Maurice Parker <\/em>– respected and loved Australian entertainment reporter and Simon Townsend\u2019s Wonderworld alumni – the event will see songs performed by Aussie rock legend Paul Field from The Cockroaches<\/em> headlining a six piece band –  with big screen appearances and interviews from the stars who appeared on stage at the historic events in Wembley Stadium, London; JFK Stadium, Philadelphia as well as Sydney\u2019s Oz for Africa concert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Live Aid, the historic benefit concert organised by Bob Geldof in 1985, captivated the world with its star-studded lineup of more than 75 international artists such as Queen, Elton John,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eric Clapton, U2, The Who, The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Madonna and Rolling Stones, who came together for famine in Africa as the two events happened concurrently across the Atlantic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday 13 July 1985, 1.9 billion people – almost 40% of the world\u2019s population – came together to support the \u200b\u200bmulti-venue, transcontinental benefit concert, held at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On that very same day, the event inspired concerts around the world including Oz for Africa<\/em> which took place at the Sydney Entertainment Centre – at which Maurice Parker was heavily involved, as part of his role on Terry Willesee Tonight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Host and producer of Live Aid: The Songs & Stories – Maurice Parker said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI actually attended the Oz for Africa Concert in Sydney that night and hosted the Channel 7  Live Aid Telethon which was quite a daunting task. I remember Live Aid like it was yesterday – from The Cars performance of Drive – which became an unofficial anthem for Live Aid – right through to Queen\u2019s amazing performance at Wembley – Freddie Mercury was the ultimate frontman to unite the world that day. That is why I want to recreate this amazing event in some small way\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, almost four decades later, music enthusiasts will have the chance to relive the energy and passion of that momentous day with two local Sydney personalities who have had worked with many of the international artists that appeared at Live Aid and Oz for Africa on that famous day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parker interviewed Live Aid artists such as Bob Dylan, Sting and Bryan Adams – through to the lead act on the night, Paul Field, who in his Cockroaches days supported Live Aid creator<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul Field, former Cockroaches band member and Manager of The Wiggles said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was a young fella playing in Sydney\u2019s pubs and clubs with The Cockroaches when Live Aid happened – it totally blew my mind and as a passionate Stones fan – Mick Jagger strutting and singing with Tina Turner was my highlight. And to see Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood be introduced by the legendary Philadelphia host – Jack Nicholson – to perform with Bob Dylan – was pure gold. So I cannot wait to faithfully recreate all of the songs from both venues – and also Oz for Africa with the band\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Audiences at the Laycock Theatre can expect to hear more than 20 of the biggest hits performed at Live Aid by the six-piece band led by Field and from artists including: Queen, Status Quo, Elton John, Madonna, Simple Minds, The Cars, Duran Duran, Nik Kershaw,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mick Jagger, Spandau Ballet, The Pretenders \u2026 as well as classics performed at Oz For Africa <\/em>such as INXS, The Angels, Dragon and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
