At just 20 years old, emerging country music talent Lucy Parle<\/strong> has clocked up some serious miles. She\u2019s notched numerous accolades to her name – including nods from Triple J\u2019s Unearthed High<\/strong> and the International Songwriting Competition<\/strong> \u2013 and a slew of performances and collaborations alongside many of the country\u2019s best. The singer-songwriter reflects on the road so far in her latest offering, \u2018Best of Me\u2019<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s a deeply personal track that marks a pivotal moment in Lucy’s <\/strong>musical journey. “The song is about me not being happy with my life and where my music was heading and the realisation that I had to make some major changes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy<\/strong> was personally invited to receive mentorship from country music legend Gina Jeffreys<\/strong> when she was just 14. This partnership led to collaboration with Jeffreys\u2019<\/strong> husband, Rod McCormack<\/strong> (The Wolfe Brothers, Adam Harvey<\/strong>), who not only produced the new single, but co-wrote the hit alongside Lucy<\/strong> and Nashville-based songwriter Sam Gay<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recording process for \u2018Best of Me\u2019<\/strong> was both invigorating and collaborative. “We had a live band in the studio, which included myself, Rod McCormack, Jeff McCormack, and Glenn Wilson. The experience was a lot of fun and brought an authentic feel to the track,”<\/em> Lucy <\/strong>reflects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authenticity is taking centre stage in the next chapter of Lucy\u2019s<\/strong> career. \u201cI decided to leave my record label and publisher as they were pushing me in a direction I didn\u2019t want to go.\u201d <\/em>Returning to her country music roots, \u2018Best of Me\u2019<\/strong>, radiates confidence; Lucy\u2019s<\/strong> cosy vocal, anchored upon a wash of mandolin and fiddle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have seen Lucy develop into an artist who, I believe, has the potential to be one of Australia\u2019s and the world\u2019s finest writers and performers,\u201d<\/em> shares Rod McCormack<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The accompanying music video, produced by Duncan Toombs<\/strong> from The Filmery<\/strong>, pictures Lucy <\/strong>amidst Sydney CBD\u2019s grungy metro. “It was the most embarrassing day of my life,\u201d<\/em> she laughs. \u201cHe was shooting me walking through the city and on buses singing the song. There were lots of random people staring at me, probably thinking I was a crazy person,”<\/em> The video also features a special cameo appearance from her beloved pup, Charlie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lucy\u2019s<\/strong> previous releases have garnered significant attention and praise from industry professionals and fans alike. Triple j Unearthed\u2019s Nick Findlay<\/strong> describes her music as “classic songwriting at its finest\u201d<\/em>, while Lucy<\/strong> was a standout songwriter in Triple J Unearthed High<\/strong> in 2020 and 2021. She was crowned the winner of the Teen Category in the 2020 International Songwriting Competition<\/strong> and twice named Australian Songwriters Association Youth Songwriter of the Year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As an ardent animal rights supporter, Lucy’s<\/strong> compassion extends beyond her music. She supports Animals Australia<\/strong> and the Animal Justice Party<\/strong>, has adopted a koala, and previously volunteered at Moo To Ewe<\/strong>, a farmed animal sanctuary on the coast. Lucy’s<\/strong> love for animals is evident in her personal life, where she dotes on her dog, Charlie – aka Pup, Charles in Charge, Fatty or Sir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
