Central Coast Council is wrapping up its successful Creating+Labs program for 2024 with a series of free workshops focused on mental health and wellbeing for artists, arts workers and arts organisations. Held throughout October, which is Mental Health Awareness Month, these workshops are part of Council’s ongoing commitment to supporting the vibrant arts sector on the Coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Director Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith said the workshops provide valuable tools and resources to help artists thrive both professionally and personally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe creative industries are a vital part of our community, but artists and arts workers can be particularly vulnerable to mental health challenges,\u201d said Ms Smith. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re proud to offer these Creating+Labs workshops in partnership with Hey Mate to equip our local creatives with the knowledge and tools to prioritise their wellbeing and create healthy, supportive work environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe first of the mental health workshops is \u2018Creative Industry Wellbeing\u2019 on Thursday 3 October. This interactive session will provide practical strategies for managing stress, building resilience and fostering a positive mindset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cFollowing this, \u2018Making a Safe Work Environment in the Arts\u2019 on Friday 4 October will focus on how arts organisations can create inclusive spaces that prioritise the wellbeing of their staff and artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe final workshop, \u2018Youth Mental Health First Aid for Teaching Artists,\u2019 is a two-day accredited training program happening on 17 and 18 October. This comprehensive program equips participants with the skills to identify signs of mental health concerns in young people and provide support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council CEO David Farmer said Council aims to create a sustainable and thriving arts community that benefits the Central Coast as a whole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cInvesting in the wellbeing of our creative community is an investment in the future of the arts on the Central Coast,\u201d Mr Farmer said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese Creating+Labs workshops are a valuable opportunity for local artists to learn essential tools and resources to manage their mental health and build a thriving creative career.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All workshops are free to attend, but bookings are essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
