Central Coast Council invites the community to celebrate Heritage Month from 18 April to 18 May as part of the Australian Heritage Festival, with this year\u2019s theme being \u2018Change\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme encourages communities across Australia to reflect on how our history has shaped the places we live today, and how we continue to contribute to the stories that will shape our future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council\u2019s Heritage Month program builds on this theme by exploring how people, places and moments across the Central Coast have evolved over time, through a series of activities taking place in Gosford and Wyong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said Central Coast Heritage Month is a wonderful reminder of what makes the region such a special place to call home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cBy bringing heritage stories to life in our town centres, we\u2019re celebrating our past and recognising how change continues to shape our region,\u201d Mayor McKinna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the highlights of Heritage Month is a ticketed guided walking tour of Wyong town centre, led by the Wyong Family History Group. The 90\u2011minute tour starts at Railway Square and follows the town\u2019s development through the historic buildings, stories and photographs that reveal Wyong\u2019s early years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith is encouraging those interested in attending a tour to book their spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTickets are $5 and include a redeemable small coffee at participating caf\u00e9s,\u201d Ms Smith said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is a self\u2011guided heritage tour also available year\u2011round for those who prefer to explore at their own pace.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program also lays the groundwork for Gosford\u2019s expanded Heritage Month offering – which will introduce a temporary historical timeline artwork in Kibble Park, and storytelling sessions in Gosford Regional Library. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A number of other local libraries will host talks throughout Heritage Month, including Tuggerah Library on 21 April and Kincumber Library on 12 May, with bookings essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
