Celebrating five decades of women’s health, community advocacy and social change on the Central Coast

The Central Coast Community Women’s Health Centre (CCCWHC) is inviting the community to explore 50 years of women’s health, advocacy and social change, with its 50 year anniversary exhibition, A History of Care: A Future of Impact, now officially open at Gosford Regional Library.

Bringing together photographs, archival objects, video interviews, creative works and resources, the exhibition traces the Centre’s history and celebrates the women, community members, health professionals, volunteers and advocates who have helped shape its work over the past five decades.

From the early days of the women’s health movement to the challenges and achievements that continue to shape women’s lives today, the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to reflect on how far the community has come, recognise the people behind this progress and consider what the next 50 years could look like.

CCCWHC Board Chair Janet Attwood says the exhibition honours the Centre’s history while recognising the importance of continuing to advocate for women’s health, safety and equality.

“For 50 years, the Centre has been part of a movement to improve women’s health, challenge inequality and create a safer, healthier future for women and children,” says Janet.

“This exhibition is an opportunity to recognise the women and community members whose courage, commitment and determination have helped shape the services and support available today. Their stories remind us that progress is possible when people come together to challenge the status quo and advocate for change.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re also looking ahead. We want to continue building a future where every woman feels heard, supported and empowered to access the care and opportunities she deserves.

CCCWHC CEO Sara Foster says the anniversary is an opportunity to acknowledge the Centre’s enduring contribution to the community and the people who have sustained its work across generations.

“Reaching 50 years is a remarkable milestone, and one that reflects the dedication of so many women, staff, volunteers, supporters and advocates who have contributed to the Centre over the years,” says Sara.

“The exhibition helps preserve these important stories and recognises the collective effort behind the progress we have made. It also reminds us that the work is not finished. We have a responsibility to honour this legacy by continuing to champion women’s health and wellbeing for generations to come.”

The exhibition also showcases creative works contributed by women across the Central Coast, each offering a unique perspective on the future of women’s health and wellbeing in our region.

But the conversation doesn’t end with the artwork on display. As a living exhibition, A History of Care: A Future of Impact invites every visitor to share their own hopes, ideas and vision for the future of women’s health on the Central Coast, creating an opportunity for the community to contribute to an ongoing conversation about what a healthier, safer and more equal future could look like.

Alongside these creative works, visitors can discover the stories of women who have been involved with the Centre over the past 50 years, explore significant moments in its history and learn more about the advocacy, care and community action that continue to shape women’s health and wellbeing today.

As CCCWHC celebrates this significant milestone, the exhibition honours the women who have helped pave the way while inviting the wider community to help shape what comes next. Because the future of women’s health is something we all have a role in creating.

The community is invited to visit A History of Care: A Future of Impact at Gosford Regional Library and celebrate 50 years of women supporting women, while adding their voice to the vision for a stronger, safer and more equal future.
