It\u2019s that time of year again, when giving up alcohol for a month can benefit Central Coast community members with cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Central Coast Local Health District\u2019s CoastCanCare wellness program is a direct beneficiary of the national Dry July fundraising campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CoastCanCare Program Coordinator Tia Covi said the donations fund free wellbeing and recovery activities for anyone on the Central Coast affected by cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThings like exercise, meditation, art therapy or education sessions helping people understand things like Centrelink or enduring power of attorney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very open and inclusive of anybody on the Central Coast that is assisting someone going through cancer treatment or even someone who had cancer years ago who might need some support now,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For many participants CoastCanCare provides something to look forward to, and a break from ongoing medical appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Those taking part are encouraged to schedule in something they love to do every day, so life is about living.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It\u2019s the commitment of community members who take part in Dry July that makes it all possible. Ms Covi hopes people get behind the cause this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cReducing alcohol for a month will have a huge impact on your own health but by taking part in Dry July you\u2019ll also know that you\u2019re going to help someone else,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
