Local seniors are being warmly invited to join Coastlink\u2019s popular Friendship Group at the organisation\u2019s new and improved Woy Woy Activity Hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Friendship Group affords older people the opportunity to meet new people, enjoy a meal and a laugh, and participate in a wide range of activities and events via the Group\u2019s monthly Activity Calendar<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coastlink Chair, John Mouland, says that loneliness and social isolation present a serious public health issue for older people, with compelling evidence about the physical and mental health impacts they can have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe know that the Australian population in general is ageing and living longer. The prevalence of loneliness and social isolation is rising, and I think the risks for older people have been exacerbated by new technologies, our fast-paced modern lifestyle, and of course, the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAlready on the Central Coast, around 27% of the population is aged 60 years and older, but by 2036 the number of people aged over 60 is expected to increase significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s now well established that the physical, emotional and mental health of older adults is directly impacted by their level of social connection, and I\u2019m proud that Coastlink offers programs like our Friendship Group to support and enhance their quality of life,\u201d Mr Mouland said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coastlink CEO, Lynne Graham, says that the recent work to improve the organisation\u2019s Woy Woy Activity Hub is a tangible example of the way Coastlink has made the health and wellbeing of their Aged Care clients a priority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom club visits and theme days to luncheons and live shows, our clients really love all of the activities we offer as part of the Friendship Group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut more than that, they\u2019re so appreciative of the opportunity to get out and about on the Coast, meet other likeminded seniors, and strengthen their own connection to their local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
