The newest work by Artistic Director and Choreographer Rafael Bonachela has been described as ethereal yet powerful all at once. It pushes the limits of the human body, chases the dancers with moving lights, and lives up to the reputation of the long-standing leaders in contemporary dance, Sydney Dance Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The relationship between Sydney Dance Company and The Art House continues to grow and The Art House is pleased to be able to bring to the Central Coast high calibre performances such as this, momenta<\/em>, the first full length, full company production to tour since 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a first-time collaboration with Elizabeth Gadsby (the most sought-after set designer currently in Australia), reviewers and audiences alike are left in marvel at the incredible set and costumes that complement the aesthetic and movement of the dancers and vice versa. Gadsby and lighting designer Damien Cooper have somehow created a stationary cloud on stage, not to mention the giant swinging pendulum of lights that floats and moves around the dancers like a spaceship. And it is exceptional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if contemporary dance is not to your liking, this production is worth seeing for the incredible set and overly impressive athleticism, concentration, focus and fluidity of the dancers. Sydney Dance Company\u2019s momenta <\/em>will not disappoint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c\u2019kaleidoscope\u2019: a push-me pull-you of liberation. A woman grabs a man\u2019s shoulder and then pushes him brusquely away. Under dynamic overhead lighting, another man swings a woman around over his hips, one of her legs extended, the other pivoted on the ground like a compass, until they relax together, turning slowly on the reflective floor. They stand up as cut-out silhouettes and are absorbed back into the dark, cavernous space<\/em>.\u201d \u2013 The Saturday Paper<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sydney Dance Company will also be conducting an after-school dance workshop on Fri 8 Nov for children aged 8-12 with some dance experience, spots are limited so make sure you get in fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
