At Meals on Wheels Central Coast, it’s not just about delivering meals, it’s about building connections, creating friendships and enriching lives.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet Al<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Al, volunteering with Meals on Wheels Central Coast (MOWCC) is about more than just delivering meals – it’s about connection. “My mother received Meals on Wheels in Sydney years ago, and I’ve always enjoyed helping people,” he shares. His passion for service led him to join MOWCC 11 years ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al starts his day planning the most efficient route before loading up and heading out. “I take time to chat with clients. check on their wellbeing, and help if needed,” he explains. His friendly nature has earned him their trust, and they often praise the meals. Tm always amazed when they compliment me on the food – I’m just the driver!” Some clients have even returned to MOWCC after noticing improvements in the meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes MOWCC special, Al believes, is the personal touch. “We don’t just drop meals and leave; we stop to chat and ensure everything\u00b7s okay. I’ve even reported back when clients needed emergency help.” For Al, making someone smile, even for a moment, makes volunteering worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet Patricia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Patricia, MOWCC provides more than just meals – it offers companionship and support. “I’ve received meals at home for seven years. and they help a lot since I can ‘t cook anymore. There’s great variety, and I love the desserts!” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The social connection is just as important. “The volunteers always stop for a chat, and I’ve become friends with the one who delivers my meals. It’s lovely to have that interaction ,” she shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At over 65, Patricia stays active by attending the Community Restaurant. “It’s important to get out and see people – it brightens my day and helps me through the week,” she says. She has made close friends and enjoys the themed lunches. “We never know what to expect when we walk in – it’s always a beautiful surprise!”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When it comes to meals. Patricia struggles to pick a favourite. “It’s hard to choose,” she laughs. “They’re all so good! The volunteers do such a great job, and we really appreciate their time that they give freely.” For Patricia. MOWCC has provided more than just food – it’s given her a renewed sense of community and belonging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meet John<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

John started volunteering at the Tuggerah Community Restaurant a year ago, helping create a warm and welcoming space. “We set up the room. serve a two-course meal with tea or coffee. and help run games like bingo,” he explains. Safety and hygiene are a top priority. ensuring everything meets WHS standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of his favourite aspects is the themed lunches. “We love seeing clients’ reactions when they walk in and say ‘wow!’ They embrace the themes. often dressing up to match,” he says. These special events create a fun atmosphere that both clients and volunteers look forward to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond meals, John sees the restaurant as a place for social connection. “Clients form friendships, share stories, and feel part of a community.” he says. Volunteering has also given him renewed purpose. “After retirement, staying motivated can be tough . But giving back to the community brings joy and fulfilment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Meals on Wheels Central Coast. our volunteers deliver more than just a meal. With a team of dedicated volunteers and 18 staff members. our not-for-profit organisation has worked tirelessly since 1967 to ensure that our senior population receives affordable. nutritious meals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
