{"id":9070,"date":"2025-08-23T13:04:18","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T03:04:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onthecoastpublications.com.au\/onthecoastover55\/?p=9070"},"modified":"2025-08-23T13:05:28","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T03:05:28","slug":"dementia-action-week-central-coast-seniors-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onthecoastpublications.com.au\/onthecoastover55\/dementia-action-week-central-coast-seniors-event\/","title":{"rendered":"FREE Dementia Action Week Community Event at Mingara Recreation Club, Central Coast"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>As part of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dementia.org.au\/get-involved\/dementia-action-week\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dementia Action Week 2025<\/a>, to be held from Monday, September 15th to Sunday, September 21st, the Central Coast Dementia Alliance invites you to a special event at Mingara Recreation Club on&nbsp;<strong>Wednesday, 17 September<\/strong>, 2025, to raise awareness, advocacy, and support for people living with dementia and their carers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event will feature a dynamic program of presentations, performances, and discussions, highlighting the voices and experiences of those impacted by dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meet the MC: Jason Van Genderen<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading the day\u2019s proceedings is filmmaker and dementia advocate&nbsp;<strong>Jason Van Genderen<\/strong>, whose heartfelt storytelling and personal journey with his late mother, who lived with dementia, have touched audiences worldwide through his film \u2018Everyone\u2019s Oma\u2019. Jason brings warmth, insight, and a deep commitment to changing the way we view dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The agenda is jam packed with information and insights for our local community. A few highlights include;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A vibrant performance by\u00a0<strong>The Glen for Women Dance Group<\/strong>, celebrating culture and community.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Emma McBride MP<\/strong>, Federal Member for Dobell and a passionate advocate for mental health and aged care, will deliver a keynote address.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dr. Suresh Sethuraman<\/strong>, an advanced trainee in geriatrics at Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD), will share clinical insights and just what is dementia.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dementia Advocates<\/strong>\u00a0Bobby Redman and Robyn Rex share their lived experiences.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Central Coast Local Health District CNC Dementia Services Nurses<\/strong>\u00a0will provide updates on support services and care pathways.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A\u00a0<strong>Q&amp;A Panel with Carers<\/strong>\u00a0of people living with dementia, offering real-life perspectives and practical advice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Plus much more including information booths from local dementia support services, aged care providers, and community organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This free event is open to everyone and aims to foster understanding, reduce stigma, and build a more dementia-friendly Central Coast.
