Central Coast Council is inviting the community to come together for NAIDOC Week 2026 and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year, NAIDOC Week will be held from Sunday 5 July to Sunday 12 July under the national theme 50 Years of Deadly<\/em>; marking five decades of strength, culture, resilience and community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n To commemorate the start of NAIDOC Week, Council\u2019s annual flag raising ceremony will take place on Monday 6 July at 9.30am in front of the Central Coast Council Administration Building, 2 Hely Street, Wyong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said NAIDOC Week is an important opportunity for the community to recognise and show respect to our First Nations community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cNAIDOC Week gives us all the chance to acknowledge the history, achievements, identity, culture and future of our First Nations community,\u201d Mayor McKinna said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cCouncil is proud to support NAIDOC Week and remains firmly committed to strengthening relationships with our First Nations community through the Central Coast First Nations Accord, our Aboriginal Advisory Committee and our partnerships with Darkinjung Local Aboriginal Land Council and Barang Regional Alliance.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cI encourage everyone to attend our flag raising ceremony, take part in NAIDOC Week activities across the region and join us as we learn, reflect and continue advancing meaningful reconciliation in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n The ceremony will include the raising of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, ceremonial speeches and a community BBQ, providing an opportunity for residents, staff and community members to gather in recognition of the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n To learn more about NAIDOC Week, the Accord or Council\u2019s Aboriginal Advisory Committee and partnerships, search \u2018NAIDOC Week 2026\u2019<\/strong> at centralcoast.nsw.gov.au<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Central Coast Council is inviting the community to come together for NAIDOC Week 2026 and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
