Gosford Regional Library Officially Opened, a New Hub for the Central Coast

by LukeAdmin

Gosford Regional Library was officially opened today, Friday 5 September 2025, by Dr Gordon Reid, Member for Robertson, and Central Coast Council Mayor Lawrie McKinna –    unveiling a state-of-the-art facility for Gosford and the wider Central Coast community.

The $32.7 million project was proudly co-funded by Council ($25.7 million) and the Australian Government ($7 million).

Mayor Lawrie McKinna said the vision for the new library began many years ago, with its final location and design shaped by input from across the community.

“This iconic new library features dedicated spaces for children, areas for student study and focus, meeting rooms, function spaces and innovation areas for creative work.

“An example of how we are already opening up the new library to others is our partnership with the University of Newcastle to co-manage the MakerSpace, and we anticipate even more exciting collaborations now the library is officially open,” Mayor McKinna said.

The Member for Robertson Dr Gordon Reid welcomed the completion and opening of the new Gosford Regional Library.

“Libraries are so much more than books, they are places for the whole community to access, whether it be community organisations, high school students studying for the HSC, university students, or older people learning new skills, the new Gosford Regional Library will be a place for everyone.

“With ongoing development around Gosford, we are proud to contribute to another important community project in the region,” Dr Reid said.

Mayor McKinna added that this significant project will contribute enormously to Gosford, and ultimately the Central Coast, becoming a first-class region for employment, education, health and tourism.

Community Open Day – Saturday 6 September!

The new library will be opened to the community tomorrow, Saturday 6 September at 9.30am, with a ribbon cutting by Central Coast Council Mayor Lawrie McKinna and Council Library mascot, Parker the Platypus!  The Central Coast Town Crier will also proclaim the new library open! A range of free activities will be happening throughout the day, giving a taste of the on-going offerings of the new library.
