As part of Dementia Action Week 2025, to be held from Monday, September 15th to Sunday, September 21st, the Central Coast Dementia Alliance invites you to a special event at Mingara Recreation Club on Wednesday, 17 September, 2025, to raise awareness, advocacy, and support for people living with dementia and their carers.

The event will feature a dynamic program of presentations, performances, and discussions, highlighting the voices and experiences of those impacted by dementia.

Meet the MC: Jason Van Genderen

Leading the day’s proceedings is filmmaker and dementia advocate Jason Van Genderen, whose heartfelt storytelling and personal journey with his late mother, who lived with dementia, have touched audiences worldwide through his film ‘Everyone’s Oma’. Jason brings warmth, insight, and a deep commitment to changing the way we view dementia.

The agenda is jam packed with information and insights for our local community. A few highlights include;

  • A vibrant performance by The Glen for Women Dance Group, celebrating culture and community.
  • Emma McBride MP, Federal Member for Dobell and a passionate advocate for mental health and aged care, will deliver a keynote address.
  • Dr. Suresh Sethuraman, an advanced trainee in geriatrics at Central Coast Local Health District (CCLHD), will share clinical insights and just what is dementia.
  • Dementia Advocates Bobby Redman and Robyn Rex share their lived experiences.
  • Central Coast Local Health District CNC Dementia Services Nurses will provide updates on support services and care pathways.
  • Q&A Panel with Carers of people living with dementia, offering real-life perspectives and practical advice.

Plus much more including information booths from local dementia support services, aged care providers, and community organisations.

This free event is open to everyone and aims to foster understanding, reduce stigma, and build a more dementia-friendly Central Coast. Morning tea and lunch are also included.
