Stay Active and Social with Central Coast Waves Walking Basketball

by LukeAdmin

Walking Basketball is a sport for participants across all ages, genders and abilities. It helps to maintain and improve health, and decrease risk factors associated with sedentary behaviour. Whether you played years ago and want to get back into it, have never touched a ball or want to try something less strenuous on the body, now is the time to give Central Coast Waves Walking Basketball a go.

The Waves Walking Basketball program involves 45 minutes of Basketball related activity followed up with 15 minutes of socialising over complimentary tea, coffee and cupcakes. There is no running or jumping involved and is perfect for older players, those coming back from injury or just trying to avoid pressure on the joints. No prerequisites required, all we request is that you turn up and leave with a smile from ear to ear.

Last year, the Central Coast Waves won the Grand final of the 2025 Australian Masters Games defeating the Canberra Muskets 50–31. The Australian Masters Games is one of Australia’s largest premier multi sport festivals with an extensive sports program offering over 50 different sports.

Waves Operations Manager Matthew Smith said “Central Coast Waves are committed to make the great game of basketball more accessible and inclusive to the community. Our Waves Walking Basketball program has provided people on the Coast a great opportunity to be active in sport, irrespective of their ability, age and mobility”.

If you are keen to give Walking Basketball a go, the program runs:

Wednesdays 10AM – 11AM Peninsular Leisure Centre, Woy Woy
