The Central Coast Regional Sport and Recreation Complex will take centre stage on the international sporting map, with two Rugby League World Cup teams selecting Council’s Tuggerah venue as their official training base ahead of the October 2026 tournament – including the Australian Women’s ‘Jillaroos’ team and Cook Islands Men’s team.
Central Coast Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said securing the training camps for two Rugby League World Cup teams on the Central Coast is a great result for the region, delivering economic benefits for residents and businesses.
“This is a fantastic outcome for the Central Coast, showing a strong vote of confidence in our world-class sport facility at Tuggerah and our ability to host elite sport teams,” Mayor McKinna said.
“Hosting Rugby League World Cup teams, along with their entourage and visitors, will bring international attention to the Central Coast and deliver real benefits for local businesses.”
“Our Regional Sport and Recreation Complex has built a strong reputation as a premier multi-use sport facility, attracting major national and international sports teams, and this strengthens its position as a training camp destination of choice for elite sports teams.
“We’ve already shown we can successfully host international sporting teams, including the German Women’s National Football Team during 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The team and officials praised the quality of our playing fields and the support provided by Council. This is another opportunity to showcase our facilities, our relaxed lifestyle, natural beauty and welcoming community.
