The Art House is set to welcome back the renowned Bangarra Dance Theatre and celebrate the first major work from Central Coast local and company Artistic Director, Frances Rings. Yuldea has been marked the highest-grossing tour in company history following a record-breaking premiere season in 2023 and will be on the Coast in March this year.
Yuldea awakens the earth and sky worlds to tell the story of the Aṉangu people of the Great Victorian Desert.
The work explores the abrupt moment that traditional life collided with the industrial ambition of a growing nation in South Australia’s Yuldea (Ooldea). In 1917, the two halves of the Transcontinental Railway met at the precious water soak on the edge of the Nullarbor, Yuldi Kapi. As a result of the industrial pressures placed on the permanent waterhole, the water quickly ran dry.
“Within my family lineage lies the stories of forefathers and mothers who lived a dynamic, sophisticated desert life, leaving their imprint scattered throughout Country like memories suspended in time. Their lives were forever changed by the impact of colonial progress,” said Frances Rings, Umina resident and choreographer of Yuldea. The Art House is thrilled to host Frances’ as a Central Coast local and renowned Australian artist.
Brought to life with costumes from multi-award-winning Jennifer Irwin and scored by original music from Leon Rodgers and guest composers, Electric Frields (Zaachariaha Fielding and Michael Ross) alongside the talented dancers Yuldea will captivate and move audiences with this physical embodiment of an incredible story of endurement.
The Art House is committed to presenting diversity on its stage and bringing to light important stories for all Australians. Audiences won’t want to miss this one.
