Central Coast Council is supporting a number of free community events throughout September as part of the Neighbourhood project. The project marks the final stage of a broader community connection program delivered through Council and funded by the NSW Government’s Social Cohesion Grants for Local Government.
Over the past year, Council and its community partners have delivered a series of projects designed to strengthen community connections and foster belonging on the Coast, including:
- The Connected Communities survey and engagement, delivered in partnership with Mosaic Multicultural Connections
- The Connected Communities workshop held on 27 May
- The Neighbourhood project
Informed by community and sector engagement, the Neighbourhood project is designed to foster welcoming and inclusive spaces where the community can connect through shared experiences.
Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said the Neighbourhood project creates opportunities for residents to connect, share experiences and feel part of something bigger than themselves.
“We know that it can be hard to build and maintain social connections. These free events are an invitation for everyone to take part, make new connections and celebrate the diversity and community spirit that exists right across the Coast,” Mayor McKinna said.
As part of the Neighbourhood project, Council is supporting seven activities and five community-led events across Gosford, Wyoming, Mardi and The Entrance throughout September, with two additional events to be held at Central Coast Council Libraries during Welcoming Week.
Council Director Community and Recreation Services, Melanie Smith said all community members are welcome and encouraged to participate in the free local activities and events taking place throughout September.
“The events taking place as part of the Neighbourhood project are a chance for people to come together, connect with others and take part in free local activities that reflect and celebrate our community,” Ms Smith said.
“By working alongside government bodies, community partners and residents, we can continue strengthening social cohesion, building trust and creating opportunities for people to feel welcome, safe, connected and supported in our community.”
