The Entrance Men’s Shed – Big Chair Installation

by LukeAdmin

On Monday 4th April, members of The Entrance Men’s Shed attended the installation of the latest Big Chair. Situated on The Entrance Esplanade, near the carousel the chair is the sixth in Council’s Big Chair project.

The Shed and its members have designed and constructed the six chairs in collaboration with the Central Coast Council. Over 100 young artists from across the Coast have been involved in the design and painting of the chairs through the Council Youth Services eMerge and Y4Y programs.

Other chairs are located at

  • McKenzie Reserve , Budgewoi (Weemala St)
  • Beach Foreshore, Toukley (Beach Parade near the intersection with Lakeview Parade)
  • Woy Woy Wharf foreshore (Brick Wharf Road, near the play space)
  • Terrigal High School
  • Umina Beach foreshore (Sydney Avenue, next to the Umina Surf Life Saving Club)

The aim of the project is to encourage both locals and visitors to seek out each of the chairs, take a seat and enjoy the activities, attractions and wildlife local to the area reflected in the motifs on each chair.

The Big Chair project is the latest of a number of activities completed by The Entrance Men’s Shed for organisations like Council and other community groups. Shed President, Bob Ihlein said “It is projects like these that give members the opportunity to work together to utilise their skills and see something worthwhile for their efforts. Following the Covid lockdowns, and embargo on new membership, we are now fully operational and are looking forward to accepting new members who have been fully vaccinated”.

The Entrance Men’s Shed is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9.00 am until 2.00 pm and can be contacted on (02) 4332 1023.
