This year’s 5 Lands Festival walks to the beat of a different drum

by LukeAdmin

To the delight of audiences and participants over the years, music, dance and performances have been hallmarks of the 5 Lands Walk.

Who can forget Dr Yantra de Vilder’s stirring orchestral, anthem-based performances during previous years’ Opening Ceremonies, supported by the Ephemera Choir? Or the School Choirs and the diverse programme of cultural performances reflecting the 5 Lands mantra, connecting people to people and people to place?

Bringing a refreshed energy to reflect the evolution of the 5 Lands Walk Winter Festival, this year’s Opening Ceremony on Friday 23 June is a collaboration between the acclaimed and gifted Darkinjung elder Gavi Duncan and internationally renowned Central Coast based artist and composer, Dr Steven Stanke.

As former Director of Music for the Royal Australian Navy, Steven directed the Invictus Games Sydney Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Australia’s contributions to the Edinburgh Tattoo in 2016 and 2017. He brings a fresh interpretation and new compositions as musical director of the 5 Lands Walk Opening Ceremony, informed by Gavi Duncan’s deep spiritual knowledge and brilliant artistic insight. Steven is the Artistic Director and Chief Conductor for Symphony Central Coast, and his Celestial Emu concert rounds off the weekend of the 5 Lands Walk, on Sunday 25 June.

“We are thrilled and honoured to showcase the exceptional talents of Gavi and Steven during this year’s 5 Lands Walk Winter Festival, providing a unique dimension to the event. It’s an opportunity to experience and enjoy at close range the amazing talent and wonderful community spirit of the Central Coast, set against one of the world’s most beautiful natural backdrops.

“I warmly invite you to register to be part of the 5 Lands Walk Winter Festival 2023 at www.5landswalk.com.au, where you’ll find all the programme details.
