Golf clubs agree to waive club fees for a day in support of Cancer Council NSW.
Local golfers on the Central Coast will take to the green to tee off for Cancer Council’s The Longest Day on Monday 12 December.
The Longest Day is the ultimate golf challenge where golfers play 72-holes of golf – four rounds in one day – at their club to raise funds for Cancer Council.
Cancer Council NSW’s Community Relations Coordinator, Jaynie Moloney said their goal is to raise $1.4 million with the support of 150 golf clubs across the state who will allow players to take on the challenge for free. “We know how much Central Coast golf clubs like to give back and make a positive difference for people affected by cancer, so we encourage any club who is not yet involved to register.”
“‘We believe in supporting our community and this event, it’s unique to golf, and it raises awareness and funds for a wonderful cause. We’re looking forward to being there for the start of the 72 holes and welcoming the golfers back in at the end of the day!’ said General Manager, Kieran Moran at Gosford Golf Club
“All funds raised will go towards Cancer Council’s life-saving cancer research, prevention programs, and information and support services, including financial & legal assistance, practical support and information services explained Miss Moloney “Cancer Council NSW provides a number of services and programs for people affected by cancer in the state, including emotional support, transport and accommodation services, home help and and more.
“In NSW alone, it is estimated that approximately 53,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer in a single year, with around 15,825 deaths expected.”
Jaynie Moloney thanked Central Coast golf clubs for getting involved in The Longest Day.
“We rely on the generosity of our communities to work towards our vision of a cancer free future. It is the support of clubs like Gosford, Mangrove Mountain & Everglades Golf Clubs that allows us to continue our work,” said Jaynie.
“We also encourage all golfers to keep sun-safe and slip, slop, slap, seek and slide, not only on The Longest Day, but each and every day.” If your club would like to get involved in The Longest Day, sign up at www.longestday.org.au and tee off to support a cancer free future.
