Dam Day Out: Discover Your Water Supply at a Free Family Event This June

by LukeAdmin

Families are invited to discover where their drinking water comes from at the third annual Dam Day Out, returning to Mangrove Creek Dam Visitor Centre on Sunday 7 June, from 10am to 4pm, as part of the Harvest Festival.

Hosted by Central Coast Council, Dam Day Out is a free, family‑friendly community event showcasing the region’s largest dam and the journey water takes from catchment to tap.

Visitors can enjoy a full day of activities, including optional guided dam wall tours as part of the shuttle service to the event, hands‑on water education workshops, live music, food stalls, a kids’ science show and interactive activities designed to engage all ages.

Council Mayor, Lawrie McKinna said Dam Day Out was a unique opportunity for the community to connect with the environment and learn more about one of the region’s most important assets.

“Mangrove Creek Dam plays a vital role in supplying safe, reliable drinking water to the Central Coast, and Dam Day Out gives our community a rare chance to get behind the scenes and see how it all works,” Mayor McKinna said.

“It’s a great, free day out for families, combining education, entertainment and beautiful scenery, while also helping people better understand and value our water resources.”

Director Water and Sewer, Jamie Loader is proud to see the Dam Day Out returning for another year, acknowledging the important role it plays in building water literacy and community trust.

“Providing safe and sustainable water services is a core responsibility of Council. Dam Day Out is a fun initiative to show the community the scale of work and care involved in managing our water supply,” Mr Loader said.

Council’s Water Education team will also be on hand to help visitors learn more about water services, catchments and sustainability and help visitors explore the Mangrove Creek Dam Visitor Centre.

There is no on‑site parking at the Visitor Centre on the day. This year, attendees are asked to park at 200 Kyola Road, Kulnura, and catch the free shuttle bus to and from the event.

While the shuttle service previously ran from Kulnura Memorial Hall, this year’s route will make for a shorter round trip, reducing wait times for visitors.

Dam Day Out is part of Council’s broader commitment to water education, environmental stewardship and community connection, and is a key event within the 2026 Harvest Festival program.
