The Art House is devoted to introducing children to the magic of theatre, so they are delivering more kids and family friendly shows to their calendar. The latest production Hiccup is from South Australia’s Windmill Theatre, and is a rocking, outback adventure to find the great hiccup cure.

With stadium spectacular lights, thumping drums and a heavy dose of camp, Hiccup is part Kath & Kim, part The Muppets and part 1970s rock musical.  Koala comes down with an ear-shatteringly loud case of the hiccups and a sleep deprived camper, along with a cheeky quokka and an emu with a penchant for creating wild inventions take it upon themselves to cure this Koalas hiccups.

Created by Jude Henshall and Ellen Steele, two beloved South Australian artists who, after a career of performing in early childhood puppet works, have now written this beautiful show reminiscent of their own childhoods. Set on a balmy night in the outback, Henshall and Steele have successfully built a charming larger than life technicolor Australiana campsite where the action takes place. Paired with a nostalgic, psychedelic rock inspired soundtrack by Ross McHenry, the whole family will be bopping along and singing for days following. Not to mention, possibly finding out to cure the hiccups for once and for all!

Hiccup is about working together and finding new friends in unlikely places. It’s hard to try new things if you aren’t feeling brave, or you haven’t had enough sleep, but if you try your best then sometimes great things happen. Hiccup reminds us not to give up, that a bright new day is just around the corner and new friends are just a “hi” away.” – Jude Henshall & Ellen Steele

The Art House Wyong has welcomed Windmill Theatre Company many times before and are excited to have them return with their high quality, professional and wholesome kid productions. Hiccup takes their award-winning formula or their acclaimed early-childhood works including Grug, Grug and the Rainbow, Beep and of course the raging success that was Bluey’s Big Play and turns it up to 11. THE AUSTRALIAN has referred to them as “… the best children’s theatre company in the country…”

“Hiccup is a winner… The kids were with them every step of the way, singing and clapping along, cheering the triumphs and lamenting the disappointments, and loving every bit of it.” – The Advertiser
