Catch a Shooting Star! “How To Catch A Star” Musical for Kids at The Art House

by LukeAdmin

Little stargazers across the Coast will be treated to something truly special this June when How to Catch a Star soars into The Art House.

The latest commissioned work from Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) Family Productions, How to Catch a Star is based on the international best-selling picture book by Oliver Jeffers and promises to take young audiences on a musical, awe-inspiring journey through the stars.

Written and directed by Sandra Eldridge, this stunning adaptation brings the magical story about chasing your dreams to life through a dynamic stage show, brilliantly interwoven with new music by Elena Kats-Chernin, performed live by an ACO string quartet.

The work follows on from ACO Family’s first two critically acclaimed productions There’s A Sea in My Bedroom (2019) and Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge (2021), with the former having captivated audiences at The Art House back in 2022.

The ACO lives and breathes music, with their children’s literary adaptations a nod to the company’s dedication to celebrating and uplifting classical in bold cross-artform collaborations that result in unique and immersive live music experiences.

And according to Eldrige that’s exactly what Coasties can expect with this upcoming production.

How to Catch a Star is a sophisticated theatrical experience for young people with an extraordinary musical score tracking the emotional journey of a boy determined to bring a star into his life. The wonder of the book is captured through the finely composed art of the music, an exceptional ACO string quartet, movement, dialogue, and simple puppetry by a multi-talented performer portraying the boy. This is a joyous piece of theatre for all the family, but especially those who still every night wish upon a star.”

Programmed as part of The Art House’s commitment to providing diverse and exciting experiences for all Coasties, How to Catch a Star is an accessible and relaxed performance, and families with children under school age are encouraged to take advantage of this unique and tailored opportunity to introduce their children to live music and theatre. There’ll also be a Post-Show ‘Meet the Musicians’ style Q&A, where audience members can ask the performers about their instruments and the music from the show.

A tale brimming with optimism, innocence, and wonder, How to Catch a Star is a lovingly crafted children’s production that will have audiences young and old alike reaching for the stars.
