Shirley Temple eat your heart out. The Tap Conductor premieres at The Art House Wyong this May, and this bold new dance work promises audiences an unforgettable night of dance and live music.
Created and performed by acclaimed tap artist Hilton Denis and Central Coast Creative Alicia Gonzalez, The Tap Conductor flips the traditional relationship between dancer and musician on its head. Where the dancer leads the band must follow. No set list. No fixed score. Just the pure, organic connection of movement and music.
It’s part dance theatre, part concert, and completely unpredictable. From vaudeville jazz club vibes to heavy club beats, you’ll never know where The Tap Conductor is taking you, but you’ll certainly enjoy the ride!
Developed as an Art House Production (theatregoers may remember Flat Pack, the debut Art House Production that premiered in 2024), The Tap Conductor blends several dance styles (grounded by tap), physical theatre, and live music into a playful yet powerful experience.
A testament to The Art House’s commitment to nurturing creative talent on the Central Coast, and to provide that talent with local opportunities to explore, create and perform, The Art House’s Creative Producer Craig Bary, said The Tap Conductor was a significant milestone for the venue.
“We’re proud to be supporting The Tap Conductor from concept through to the stage. This is a homegrown work, developed together with artists, and brought to life right here on the Central Coast.
“Supporting local creatives to take bold ideas and turn them into fully realised performances is our future, so it’s fitting that our second ever Art House Production is falling just before our 10th Birthday,” Bary said.
