How does an Owl become wise? They aren’t born wise you know; they must learn it from somewhere. This school holidays, The Art House is hosting a visually stunning and captivating story, The Owl’s Apprentice. Performed with a mixture of storytelling, hand puppetry, and shadow puppets, children will follow Poot Poot on his journey to Owl School.
The Art House welcomes back Jenny Ellis, the creative mind behind the successful A Little Bit of Blue from the 2023 Summer@ The Art House program. Families from all over the coast enjoyed her performance and will love this one too! The Owl’s Apprentice will be set in the black box Studio, the ideal space for a shadow puppet show. Jenny describes the show as being “a creative starting point for a discussion about what it means to live well and to live wisely.”
Exploring the idea that wisdom is an accumulation of little things learned and collected in everyday life, The Owl’s Apprentice is also a celebration of Australian animals and their unique characteristics. Throughout the show, Poot Poot will meet a Lyrebird who teaches him to listen carefully, a Wombat who teaches persistence, a Kookaburra who shares the value of humour, an Echidna who is resilient and a Platypus who expands on the importance of accepting himself and his own differences.
As part of the Summer@ The Art House program, this January will be jam-packed with quality kids’ shows, workshops, and activities for your school-aged kiddies. Creator, performer, and puppeteer Jenny Ellis will be extending her puppeteering wisdom to kids aged 4-12 in her Shadow Puppet-making workshops. Available as a workshop and show package, this hands-on experience will give children a range of skills to make their own shows as well as a puppet they can take home.
The Summer@ The Art House program will deliver a vast and plentiful range of shows and experiences to Central Coast audiences over January. The Art House is the place to be this Summer!
