After 8 long years of campaigning and incredible community support it was announced on 16th July 2020 by Parliamentary Secretary for the Central Coast and Member for Terrigal Adam Crouch, that a dedicated Palliative Care Unit will be established at Gosford Hospital.
The Elsie’s Retreat Committee proudly supported by the Lions Club of Wyoming East Gosford Centennial is thrilled with this announcement to have Elsie’s Retreat become a reality for the Community of the Central Coast. From countless community groups, politicians for all Parties, Andrew Montague, CEO of Central Coast Local Area Health, our tireless campaign will finally happen.
For the first time the Central Coast will have a dedicated Palliative Care Unit with the NSW Government committing to establish this new service.
The new Palliative Care Unit at Gosford Hospital builds on a record $100 million investment in palliative care in the 2017 NSW Budget, as well as the commitment in 2019 of 8 new palliative care nurses for our community.
The new indoor and outdoor spaces will transform palliative services for patients, families and carers. We have always looked towards a sympathetic and homelike environment for our patients.
This has been made possible by the amazing support of the community of the Central Coast.
Planning for the new Palliative Care Unit is currently underway. A construction contract will be tendered shortly, and work will begin in late 2020.
We are now seeking assistance with donations and sponsorship to make this Unit become the very best, with support for TV’s, medical recliners, and all the comforts of home that we can give.
