Central Coast Children’s Choir to take to the stage with Opera Australia

by LukeAdmin

This winter, The Art House is supporting young singers of the Central Coast Conservatorium of Music Children’s Choir to appear on stage alongside the stars of Opera Australia. This valuable initiative creates a local chorus to join Opera Australia’s singers and live orchestra for the light-hearted and infamous Rossini masterpiece, The Barber of Seville.

Rossini’s opera is a comic and chaotic story of love, mistaken identities, and scheming trickery as the enterprising barber Figaro acts as the matchmaker for a pair of would-be-lovers. Its instantly familiar score is recognisable through renditions in movies, cartoons, and commercials.

This the third time Opera Australia will work with The Art House and Central Coast Conservatorium of Music, with the children’s choir appearing in their 2018 performance of Madame Butterfly and sadly cancelled production of Carmen in 2021.

“We’re so excited to be able to offer this opportunity to these talented local singers after the disappointment of cancellation during lockdown”, The Art House executive director Anne-Marie Heath said. “Appearing in a world-class opera at their local theatre will be an incredible experience and one we are sure they will enjoy”.

In line with the mission to bring renowned national theatre companies to the coast, The Art House have kept ticket prices low, to allow seasoned opera fans the luxury of a performance without the need to travel, whilst also encouraging newcomers and younger audiences to embrace the experience.
