Is Toastmasters for you?

by LukeAdmin

In today’s world, one thing that separates successful people from everyone else is the ability to communicate effectively.

Toastmasters is an international organisation that helps ordinary people like you and me develop skills and confidence so we can effectively and confidently express ourselves in any area of life – work or socially.  Whether talking to customers, clients, work colleagues, friends or family, the importance of good communication skills can’t be underestimated. If you want to get the edge and learn how to speak with confidence, clarity and clout, then consider joining Toastmasters.

Toastmasters offers a number of Pathways where you can learn – or hone – those skills that are important to you. You get better in preparing speeches, or presentations, or simply general verbal communications. You may even want to become adept at leadership. Furthermore, you’ll develop your listening and interpersonal skills in a fun and supportive environment.

The fear of public speaking is ranked as a major problem for many people but Toastmasters provides a safe place where you can learn. Remember that everyone had their “L-plates” on once and public speaking is like a muscle, the more you practice, the stronger and better you become! At Toastmasters, we say:

“We can’t stop the butterflies from happening, but we can teach you how to make them fly in formation and under control.”

Here are some benefits of joining Toastmasters:

  • Become a more effective communicator.
  • Improve grammar and vocabulary.
  • Become a great listener.
  • Learn to give specific, positive, and helpful feedback.
  • Speak to inspire.
  • Become more socially confident.

If you’re time poor, a Speechcraft course is for you. These courses are short and intensive to help you develop your verbal communication skills.

Clubs meet at different venues around the coast (or on Zoom) on different days and times – usually twice a month. There’s sure to be one to suit YOU. Why not visit one and see how we learn and grow together? You’ll be invited to speak, but if you don’t feel comfortable, simply watch and learn.
